Today, 5 February, 2014, is a day to celebrate and give thanks to God for Mavin Records first lady, Tiwa Savage, as she celebrates her 34 birthday.
The ‘Eminado’ crooner who got married last year to her manager, Tunji Balogun, aka Tee Billz, was born in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1980, before her family relocated to London when she was 11 years old, where she slotted into her high school’s orchestra band as a trombone player.
The singer, songwriter, recording artist, performer, actress and brand ambassador for MTN Nigeria and Pepsi, is currently signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing and Mavin Records owned by Don Jazzy.
Tiwa Savage has had quite a sterling career in music. Many people do not know that he co-wrote the track, ‘Collard Greens & Cornbread’ on Fantasia Barrino’s Grammy-nominated album, Back to Me.
After graduating with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Kent, Tiwa Savage started working at The Royal Bank of Scotland, but the lure to do music was too much for her that she dumped her banking job to pursue her passion.
At the age of 16, she did back-up vocals for George Michael and also lent vocals to other musicians such as Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Blu Cantrell, Emma Bunton, Kelly Clarkson, Andrea Bocelli, and Ms. Dynamite, among others.
She has performed on stage with Sting, 50 Cent, The Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Robbie Williams, and Destiny’s Child, amongst others.
Her deal with Sony Music solidified her to write for Babyface, Kat Deluna, Fantasia Barrino, Monica and Mýa, among others.
Tiwa Savage released her debut studio album, ‘Once Upon a Time’, on July 3, 2013, before releasing her first debut single, ‘Kele Kele Love’, in Nigeria. The song made its way to the top of several Nigerian music charts.
Since she relocated to Nigeria, she has not looked back as she is one of the hottest female singers in the country at the moment.
Join us to wish her a very happy birthday.
